A TRUTH THAT HURTS

I feel like laughing really hard today. I am frustrated and I want to laugh out in extreme frustration. Just as I am trying to control the rage and anger I feel on the reservation policy, I get to hear news of a different kind. But both of them tell the same tale about my country and its politics.

The second story is on BJP, the party that ruled our country for 5 years and let Gujarat riots happen. I happen to read a piece of news on rediff which says BJP has banned the release of 'Fannah' in Gujarat. And this doesn’t stop here... Now, they have asked the government to ban the film altogether.

And all this for what reason??? Well, in a country, where freedom of speech is one of the fundamental rights, Aamir Khan is being reprimanded for voicing out his support for the Narmada Bachao Andolan team.

U know what frustrates me the most.... that we pride ourselves for being a secular, open society where all people are treated equally. And in the same vein, we do things which are not only anti openness and anti secular but also make a sheer mockery of the entire system. There are so many instances I can quote which have left me angry, frustrated, upset and bewildered but thought this was it, things will get better.

But each passing day, my belief in my government (not that I had much) is fading. So much so, that I am almost at the point of no return.

This may be a small issue considering the fact that we are facing such a huge challenge but think about it. Isn’t it ironic that we choose our government to make out lives better, to remove poverty, to provide good education to all and instead of focusing on that, our esteemed politicians use the precious parliament time in debating issues which can only be termed as 'INANE'

But then, they don’t care. When they don’t care a damn about our doctors staying hungry for days, when they don’t care about the future of this country, when they don’t care that they are dividing the country into pieces, I am certain they don’t give a damn to Aamir Khan, Deepa Mehta, Dan Brown, Salman Rushdie, the Danish Cartoonist, you, me etc, etc.

The list just goes on and on…

Hey
Usually I am the moralistic,Rang De Basanti types..you know..our country's not perfect..so what?!
But considering what has been happening & the turn of events have all led me to stop thinking that way & I feel the exact same emotions that you do about the govt.
I read that article about Fanaa being banned in the papers too & I was just SHOCKED!!!
I think now I feel no shame in saying..."Iss desh ka kuchh nahi ho sakta!"..not till all the politicians are alive atleast!

I am surprised by the extreme views on this blog. There seems to be an "all or nothing" kind of thinking happening here which is not required I think. This type of thinking will usually lead to hopelessness and frustration which seems to be the case. Its great to have strong views but they should be supported by suggestions/alternatives/solutions to make things better. I doubt if killing politicians is any solution.

I think for very long, we have been trying to figure out a solution for all that is happening in the name of democracy. I also know that killing them is not the solution but we do feel helpless when the politics of this country overtakes everything else and that includes the basic welfare of its citizens.....

somebody once said that "in a democracy, we get the government we deserve."

so true.

let me put this in perspective.

in gujarat, during the riots, 9 year old girls were raped. infants were burnt in the cradle.

we did not do anything.

in orissa, a harmless missionary and his little boy was burnt to death.

we did not do anything.

in gurgaon (right in our backyard) thousands of workers were beaten and clubbed mercilessly because they demanded their constitutional right to form an union.

we did not do anything.

all this was happening to 'other people.'

our india was the india of malls and multiplexes. the india where emi rates and the latest cricket scores was more important than starvation death statistics.

well the mob is beginning to knock at our doorsteps now.

it will start with a little reservation here and there.

followed with a movie banned.

where will it all lead to?

admit it - we the so called upper middle class are a small minority too.

we did not lend our voices to the cause of these 'other people.'

who is going to hear us now?

Well, as my my dear friend said nite before last that I must stop getting so frustrated with all the wrongs and work towards making things right.

Dont know how it will start but I am sure if all of us stand together to make a difference, then all of must will be able to make a difference.

The willingness needs to be there....

May be u are right Mr./Ms. do something.

May be we have been way too happy with our own comfort zones to bother about these issues till now. But its never too late, is it?

It has to start somewhere, somehow and I am positive that it will.

One more thing, I do vote, how much ever long it takes....

Hey

Yes

I know what BJP did was wrong.

But

U know only one side of the story.

There's a lot behind it.
BJP is overreacting - true.
But like Aamir has right to express their feeling so does BJP has their right to express their feelings.

All u have seen in news channels are that they are burning posters, not allowing people to visit theaters etc. But no one has ever registered a complaint against any of the BJP activist. Not a single arrest.
Freedom To Express.

About Narmada Bachaao Andolan...Its an important project for many states.
Not only that, BJP government in Gujarat has agreed on giving shelter to those people who will loose their houses.

I guess What made BJP mad was Aamir's Comment against the Party and Its leader.

Take this.

Supreme cort ordred BJP to provide shelter to those unlucky people.
And So did Aamir.
But then Why is BJP not marching their protest against Supreme court...?
Why only Aamir Khaan?

I agree tha politics should be kept apart from Art but only people I have seen opposing the banning of Movie and Art-Vs-Politics are those who doesnt even know how to VOTE forget about giving a vote.

And,

If aamir khaan is so much excited about welfare of people why is he not supporting the ROW Against the Reservation?
Which, we all Agree(I hope) is totaly wrong. :)

nJo! man.
PS : No offence intended.
I know I write a crap and I write all wrong but All i want is to nJ0!

And one more thing

Though Politicians are Ruining the country they are Running it too.
Its not INDIAN YOUTHS who are doing this(WHich should be the case)
its them who are running this country.

The only solution to his problem is USE UR RIGHT TO VOTE.

Dont be like Me. A Simple software engineer who just voted once in his lifetimes and that too 7 times and that too when i was 17 and that too not to a Candidate but to a Party..
Yes BJP

Hey Mukund

I understand your sentiment but I still feel that what BJP practices is what I can call total anarchy. Even we say what Aamir Khan said was totally wrong and out of context, it still does not give the state government the right to take the law in their hands and make a mockery of our democratic rights.

And the sad part is that its not the first time they have done it and unfortunately, not the last time either.
